Here are Bobby’s top three tips for helping your children practice their music!
1) It helps when you know what your children are learning and ask them to perform it for you. “Hey, show me what you are working on” — This can build life time memories!
2) Reward for practicing, for example, if your student practices 10 minutes a day they can build up “equity” toward a larger purchase (a new guitar strap, a new music book, or something totally unrelated to music!) Give them something concrete to look forward to and they will work towards it, especially if you have a visual chart where they can view their progress (like our ilvl system).
3) Make listening to music a family event, help your child to appreciate different musical styles – what they listen to, what you listened to when you were their age, what your parents used to listen to. The more music they experience the better they will hear different tones and rhythms which will make it easier for them to learn.
