Jamie’s love for music began at the age of five, when her dad introduced her to the piano. Her parents signed her up for piano lessons at Sound of Music at the age of nine. Jamie took lessons with Carlos for ten years, during which time she also started pursuing other instruments in middle and high school band, including the flute, alto saxophone, oboe, and percussion. After high school, Jamie began teaching piano lessons herself with Sound of Music. The flute remained her biggest musical passion though, and after three years of teaching with the Sound of Music team, Jamie decided to move to Victoria to pursue a Bachelor’s of Music with a focus on flute at the University of Victoria. At UVic, Jamie had the opportunity to play piccolo and principle flute with the Wind Symphony, and principle flute with the Orchestra. In addition to her large ensembles, Jamie played in flute quartets and a wind quintet, and spent plenty of time working on solo repertoire for performances. She also had the opportunity to play flute and piccolo with the Greater Victoria Youth Orchestra. Away from the flute, Jamie spent two years of her degree singing with UVic’s Chorus and focused on classes in theory, arranging, and music history. With four years of new musical knowledge, experience, and loads of hours practicing under her belt, Jamie is excited to return to teaching at the Sound of Music and bringing all that she learned into the lessons she will be giving.
